We juggle so much that at times it can become pretty overwhelming, huh? But does God really intend for us to live life that way? I don't believe so. His Word says in John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. Then we have, John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
He has given us His peace and it's a peace that is opposite of what the world offers us. The peace the world offers us is conditional, with strings attached. The peace that God offers is simple, yet powerful enough to stand the test of time. As a matter of fact, it's an eternal peace because it never ends! It's easy for us to get ourselves in the current of the world's stream of busyness, while struggling to walk in the ultimate peace of God. Why is that?
Here's some things we can do to increase peace in our lives and the advice is straight out of the Word, imagine that? There's Philippians 4:6-7 that says, do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Then there's, Romans 8:6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Wow! How profound. Do you think there is a correlation between thanksgiving and peace? When we step out in to thankfulness in spite of what were going through, does God instill His peace?
Something I do quite frequently is take inventory of my life. I consider the path my life is taking and I place that before God. I ask Him to make the changes He desires to put in to place. After all, my life really doesn't belong to me, it belongs to God. There are times when God shows me to put something aside, free up my time here or there and I'm obedient to listen to His direction. I listen, because I know that He understands much more so than I do ... what I can handle and what I cannot handle.
We are all given 24 hours in our day. What we do with those hours will reveal what's important to us. There are times when I'm life coaching that I give a client a time management sheet to fill in for a week, when they come back I can see what takes up most of their time. To their dismay it is an eye opener ... in a not so positive light. That's how I help them identify changes that must be made and incorporated in to their lives. Proper time management is huge!
So if you're feeling overwhelmed and you want to scream "click the pause button!" maybe you should sit down and do some inventory of what changes you can make in your life too. Trust me, I understand that it's easy to get so busy that we lose sight of many things in our lives that are important. Recognize it and make the appropriate adjustments ... and in the end you will find peace. Whenever we are in God's Will, we rest in the center of His hands and that's where true peace is found.
Until next time,
Tracy Cavelli Trussell :)
