The Mirror

James 1:23-24
"Don't fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear! Those who hear and don't act are like those who glance in the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like."

Sometimes I get up in the morning and look in the mirror and think ... "wow, I have really aged. Who is this person? Do I know you? Have we officially met?" I feel as though I've just awakened from watching the movie: "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". Gone are the days when elasticity was my friend and age spots never even crossed my mind! LOL Denial of reality may also be an option? I can walk away from the mirror and forget all about what I seen and pretend I'm still twenty! Hmm ... I may consider that one very seriously!

The spiritual mirror can also tell us a lot too. Are we listening to the Word, yet failing to execute it? Are we forgetting the Promises that God has given to us? Are we letting what we hear go in one ear and out the other? Do we feel pumped up and ready to take on the world when we leave church, and then get up the next day and feel completely overwhelmed and defeated? Sound familiar? I don't know about you, but I sure can relate!

If we feel this way ... there's a good chance we're forgetting what we heard. In other words, we're not holding on to what we've heard and allowing our faith to take hold of it and create an atmosphere of power and breakthrough. It's easy to sit in church week after week and just absorb more and more sermons and get so full of Religion and knowledge that we can barely get ourselves up to walk out the back door. It's almost like eating and eating until you begin feeling nauseated and sick.

When we continue filling ourselves up, but fail to empty ourselves back out, it doesn't produce a healthy spirit-man at all. It produces an overweight spiritual man who's lethargic, sleepy and slow to action. A warrior is someone who's alert, one who is fine tuning his/her ears and eyes to hear from the Holy Spirit. How do we become empty? What's the secret? Well, frankly, there is no secret. We empty ourselves back out through intercession, helping others get delivered from bondage, strongholds, spiritual oppression and spiritual darkness. Yep, that's right ... I just said spiritual darkness.

We only deceive ourselves if we think that isn't real. It's very real! Oppression and bondage are all part of spiritual darkness and can happen to the best of us. It's not a respecter of persons, it knows no boundaries and it certainly doesn't care how many services you attended this week at your church. The fact of the matter is this: you cannot hide from it, but you CAN stand against it! Jesus gave us the victory ... not at the Cross, but at the resurrection. Sin was defeated, the power of darkness was usurped and here's the really cool part ... we have been given the authority to walk in power over darkness and tread upon the spiritual wickedness!

Here's our part in all of this ... we must act upon what we hear. What does that mean? It means when God is giving us insight or strategies to overcome the powers of darkness, we must take what we've been told and ACT upon it. Don't cower in a corner with fear, no no no ... rise up and stand in authority. "Faith without works is dead". Those are not my words, they are taken right from the Bible.

Remember what you look like spiritually. Spiritually ... you are an overcomer, you are victorious, you are a child of the King, you are an heir of Jesus Christ, you are above and not below, you are the head and not the tail. You have been bought with a price and then instilled with supernatural spiritual weapons. Don't forget what your spirit man looks like. Look in the mirror and then remember!

Until next time,
Tracy Cavelli Trussell :)
